If you dont stand for something you will fall for anything

What's funny is that some of us have words or sayings that we live by every day, and even then we don't really understand the true meaning of them.

When people want to give up we tell them "can't never did anything but sit on the fence and watch can go by", when people are angry and hurt we tell them "if you cant say anything nice don't say anything at all" or my personal favorite when people are undecided about things we often say "if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything." How unfair...... because we are the exact same people that also give up, and say hurtful things to others out of anger and find it hard to make decisions. As true as they are when they are coming out of our mouths, is as true as they should be putting them into actions.

I've got to admit, I've got one of those "what happens, happens" attitudes, I find it hard to make decisions and I'm generally a "yeah that's cool" kinda girl. In my defense: it actually will be cool, it's not my fault I find everything cool. I would like to think that out of the 6,790,062,2(1)<--- (that's me)6 people in the world I am not the only one with this difficulty. Which is why I like the saying "if you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything", not because I fall for everything, and not because I am undecided, but because it makes me realize that I'm not going believe in anything if I don't know anything.

The more someone says this to me, or tweets it, or updates it as their facebook status, the more meaning it has to me, and becomes clearer in its message. It's not just about joining your friend in a war between her and her roommate, or being able to decide what you want for Christmas, or saying "I support same sex marriages". It's more than that, It's about having the integrity and strength to stand up for what you believe in and stick by them. That's why I admire groups like the feminists, no random on the street can walk up to them and say "lovely dress, oh by the way men are God's gift to earth". That might be the longest conversation of that person's life because that feminist will stand there and tell them why that's not true until they are blue in the face.

I'm not saying become a feminist, or join the catholic church, or marry Robert Mugabe, but what I am saying is if you think Toy story 3 is the best animated film of 2010 then don't stand there and let somebody else convince you that Shrek Forever After was way better. If you see no color in people, don't stand there and let someone tell you about "black" and "white".

At the end of the day do what Bhudda says "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations." RATHER believe in yourself and when something agrees with you accept it and live up to it.
