Denim on Denim

I'm going to use the word 'new' here loosely, because this really is new to me, but I really am loving this new denim on denim trend. Over the past few weeks I've spotted a lot of denim on denim fashion on my television, in magazines, on the streets and on runways, and I'm taken. At first, much like the print on print trend, this trend wasn't something I would naturally just think of pairing together for the fear of being over-matched. I mean, I thought that was something we were all meant to stay away from, DON'T MATCH they said, so I became one of those people wrinkling their noses and making funny faces every time I saw this denim on denim trend. How wrong was I though, there is something so effortless about this trend that makes it okay to match. The reality is {Justin and Britney} it is in fact a rather stylish trend if you pull it off correctly.

Please don't mind me while I add a few more denim items to my shopping list.

What do you guys think of the Denim on Denim trend. To wear or not to wear that is the question?

#WHOSTHATGIRL?....

... No this time it is not Jess.

TopShop South Africa, which I had the pleasure of visiting the other day, {pretty shop, even prettier things to buy} I've just learnt is having a competition. They have partnered with one A-List Hollywood celebrity in their TopShop Christmas Film set to premiere on the 4th of December, and they have done a good job at keeping who this A-List celebrity is quiet, leaving us the crowd guessing #WHOSTHATGIRL? As part of their #WHOSTHATGIRL campaign TopShop SA has asked fans to guess who the celebrity is. So far they have released two teaser videos off their original TopShop Christmas Film,

Teaser 1

Teaser 2

And fans are meant to visit the Topshop South Africa Facebook Page, click on the #WHOSTHATGIRL tab on the homepage, fill in the entry form, and the name of the celebrity you think is featured in the video and then just cross your fingers and hope to die that the prize is yours. The prize? R5 000 TopShop shopping spree. I'm pretty sure I am going to attempt to enter, I mean, R5 000 to play around in TopShop is all the Christmas present I ever need. However my guessing game abilities are a little rusty.. So let me quickly go play a game or two of memory and I will be good to go.

The final video will go live on the 4th of December at 12PM, which is when the winner will be announced.

In the meantime good luck to all those who enter.

The Newest Kid on the Block Ash Muzik

Ashley Beyers, popularly known as, Ash, or A.S.H. recently dropped on my radar. This Durban born professional dancer has been in and around the music scene for a while, participating and appearing in many dance shows and competitions, also taking the stage with South African award winning hip hop and R&B groups Jozi, HHP, and Jamali, and taking part in the hit television series 'So You Think You Can Dance South Africa' in 2010.
Yeah, okay..... so maybe he isn't the newest kid on the block, and I am just about two years too late to the party, but whats new to many of us is this super talented moves maker is broadening his career to include singing. Yup, not only is he taking the stage but he is taking the microphone too.

Rumour has it A.S.H. has been singing underground for awhile now, only sharing his talent with a select few. I recently heard his latest single 'No 1 Does it Better' off his EP 'Ash Has Landed' that he plans to release in January of 2013, and let me just say [for lack of a better phrase] Ash sure has landed. I love the sound of 'No 1 Does it Better' kind of has an old school yet modern vibe to it. His sound actually reminds me of the Dream, you know, Terius Nash the voice behind Falsetto and Rockin' That Thang, yeah, that kind of electronic pop R&B sound. So basically those of you who love the Dream and his music are in for a treat with A.S.H, granted I haven't heard any other song from him yet, but if this new single is anything to go by then yes.

Take a listen to No1 Does it Better here and judge for yourself

All he needs to do now to make him a triple threat is act. Generations anyone?

For more on A.S.H, follow him on Twitter @Ash_Muzik, or  @_TeamAsh and @SwaggedIncPR for any PR related queries.

ELLE Style Reporter

Last night I attended probably the best event this entire year, {yes, I don't get out that much} either way, I am glad the glam gods forced me out because one thing is for certain ELLE Magazine South Africa and Blackberry know how to throw a party.

For the past couple of months ELLE  in association with BlackBerry® have been searching for a style reporter to join their team, no details necessary, who wouldn't read just that and not jump at such an opportunity? Obviously no one. Style reporter says it all. Any way the judges ELLE editor, Jackie Burger, photographer Ed Suter, ELLE Online editor Jenna McArthur, South & Southern Africa marketing director for BlackBerry® Ulanova Visser and Corporate Communications Manager for Sub-Sahara Africa at Research In Motion (RIM) Christa Botha chose 7 lucky bitches finalists to battle it out over a series of three challenges.

The final challenge was to take place at this 'blog party'. Obviously I had to attend, if not to snatch the award out of the winners hand and claim it as my own, then to see all their hard work and dedication pay off. I had hoped for the former, but oh well.

The venue was perfect I must say, the whole aim of the style reporting was to capture South African street style, and this venue was perfect in highlighting just that, it was not a fancy hotel, nor was it a fancy club but literally a museum space in the middle of town. How much more street can you get. Of course I showed up in a mini dress and high heels though, but hey. Free food and drinks were served to us all night, 5FM's Poppy Ntshongwana was the host of the night, music was on another level, my favourite DJ in the whole of the land, DJ Zinhle was on decks. She rocked my socks off I tell you, but the highlight for me at that event was the people of course. From the people who greeted you at the door, to the people who served you at the bar, to the people in the industry you got the chance to rub shoulders with, {my favourite meet and greet was with Live Amp presenter Luthando, BEAUTIFUL SOUL}.

Poppy

The ever so talented and prettyful @DJZinhle and I

The gorgeous and uber friendly @LootLove and I

The bar

Mingle with Ed Suter

Guests mingling

Let me tell you though, not one single person was out of style, everyone with their flashing cameras and video cams deserved to have their picture taken. That was one whole fashion show on the side, two points for ELLE, blog party and fashion show in one? Score.

As the whole point was to announce the winner of ELLE’s style reporter, let me get to that. I was incredibly happy with who they chose to be their style reporter. If it wasn’t for this competition I would have never come across any of his work, but Trevor Struuman, check him out, here and here, is one helluva fashionista. I was rooting for him from day one, and when they called him out as the winner it was like I won too, and everyone else {who attended the event for the actual style reporter winner announcement and not for free grub and goodie bags} must have felt the same way I did, cause once ‘and the winner is Trevor Struuman…’ was announced the crowd went wild. It was expected, like I said, go here and here and let him tell you himself why he deserved to win.

Before the announcement

'and the winner is..... TREVOR STRUUMAN'
After the announcement
It was honestly a fabulous night, well planned, well executed, and a true life changing experience for Trevor who now gets to sit with the big boys and report on what I personally love to see and read the most, South African street style. Who knew mid-week partying can be this fun. Congrats Trevor, and kudos to ELLE and BlackBerry® for an event well thrown. *stalks tweets for the next one*

[Re] Create

Here
A friend and I went to visit a little part of Cape Town that I had never been to this past weekend. It's crazy that I have lived in this city for almost a year now and there is still so much touring that I need to do. Anyhoo, I get to cross The Old Biscuit Mill off my list now.
Here
For those planning to ever visit Cape Town I tell you now, this place is a must see. Every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm you can enjoy some of the best ready made food ever and delight yourself in some crafty, decorative, and ornamental shopping.
Sadly I left with nothing, except a slight Mojito buzz, a full stomach and unforgettable experience. One I am sure to do again. Soon.

But, on our way there, I came across this amazing store. [Re] Create an interior design design shop founded by Katie Thompson.
Let me tell you now, this store has some amazing things. I am one that plans how her house is going to look five years from now, etc... and I can definitely see myself getting a piece or two from Katie's store. She uses pieces of old, discarded junk to recreate a unique and recycled range of furniture and interior accessories. My favourite by far has to be the suitcase chair. Yes, suitcase chair, a suitcase that is a chair.
I am in awe by the creative minds we have in this world, who would have ever thought the things we put our luggage in could also be the things we could sit on, and not just to close an overly packed bag (ladies). Apparently the suitcase chair was Katie's first recreation and the responses she has received since have been phenomenal that she just cannot and should not stop making them.
Here are a few of the ones she had in her store when we visited.

Can't wait to decorate my house with such beauty one day. These are some things I could definitely see myself putting in my children's playroom, lounge or bedroom.
For more of Katie Thompsons stuff, check out her website here or her online shop here

Hey! it's okay...

The past couple months have been a lil hectic for me. I am in the final months of my honours year and everything just seemed to be piling on at once, deadline after deadline and not to mention these random moments I experience from time to time JUST because I am a girl. (Yeah, I said it.)

Today, or rather tomorrow, that all ends. I hand in my thesis and I say 'see ya later' to all this. I. Can. Not. Wait.
However, today as I was dusting up my thesis and reading emails I said to myself: 'You know what, I may have felt all sorts of ways about my life and where it was heading these past couple of months, but hey... It's Okay'

This list is really for those who like me sometimes find themselves stuck with their lives.

Hey.... It's okay to not really know what tomorrow holds, you have today and if you make that work, chances are you can make tomorrow work too.
Hey.....It's okay to feel like no one gives you the credit you want for the things you do, timing is everything, do these things for yourself and not for someone else's benefit and what you deserve will surely be yours.
Hey....It's okay to admire someone else's work and talents, but admire yourself more, it's easy to lose sight of you and what you have to offer when you are too busy thinking someone else's life is better than yours.
Hey.... It's okay to take a few steps back. This is not a sign of failure, it is only then that you can ever really see the full picture, and you know what they say, 'Retreat to move forward'
Hey....It's okay to panic, it means you actually care about something.

Hey guys,

Even though I haven't really experienced the lovely change of weather we have been experiencing in Cape Town lately I am still uber excited about summer being finally here!

Yesterday I had a post from Samantha at Ebony Delights giving us her summer list which you can check out here, and today I give you one of my own.

Y'ellow Summer

It's been almost a month into summer down these ends, and I've been planning a few summer post for awhile. Granted I am a little delayed, but better late than never right?

For the very first post I thought I would  start off with a '10 things I want to do this summer list' from fellow blogger Samantha at Ebony Delights (please peep out her blog and give her a shout)

We all have that I-can't-wait-to list that we draw up in our minds when summer comes, the long months of winter can definitely do that to you.

Here are Samantha's

1) Shop till I drop - My wardrobe needs updating.

2) Read - I love to read and have a reading challenging on my blog, and I've picked out 5 must reads:

John Grisham – The Litigators
Maeve Binchy – Minding Frankie
Jeffrey Archer- Paths of Glory
Penny Vincenzi- The Best of Times
Louise Bagshawe- Glitz

3) Spend time with friends and family

4) Begin my present shopping

5) Catch some sun- the weather is heating up nicely.

6) Dress to kill- wear bright coloured dresses and sandals, I’ve been covering up my skin just a bit much.

7) Watch movies – like “5 year engagement”

8) Quench the thirst- sip some sun downers while sitting on the balcony

9) Blog more consistently- I’ve been slackly on my blog lately and I want to finish strong on one of my goals.

10) Eat for summer- lots of colourful fruits, smoothies and vegetables.

I Keep Forgetting My Happy Place

Goodness, it's been so long since I wrote on here.
I don't know why I do this but I keep forgetting my happy place. I loved/LOVE this blog like it was my baby and yet here I am everyday neglecting to even post on here.
I tell myself I am too busy, I tell myself I will get round to it later tonight, I tell myself I am so uninspired I have nothing to say, or nothing anyone will want to read, I just keep telling myself things that honestly are so embarrassing for some one who goes around saying she blogs...

I have written a post or a million in my head since the last time I wrote on here... (let's not all go check the date now, it was a long time ago) but it's time I start actually doing that. I make no promises to you, or myself for that matter but this is my happy place and I can no longer stay away.

You heard?

In My Spare Time... I Enter Competitions.

Lately I have been super busy trying to sort my blog life out. I do not want to go into too much details, but all I can say for now is that I have not forgotten Lu3Lus Crossing. :-) she will come back to life soon.

In the meantime, I need your help. I entered this blogging competition a while ago for this brand Porsche Design. Let me just pause for a minute.... This brand. Oh wow. For those of you who know it, you may be feeling the same way I am. Speechless at it's beauty.
I am so in love with it. It's all I have been able to think about.

But anyway, I am always unsure of myself when it comes to things like this, so I need a couple of you good Samaritans to please check out my post and honestly let me know what you think. Yay, Nay, Maybe?

Here is the link PORSCHE DESIGN BRAND- IT'S A LIFESTYLE

Thank you for those who do, and pretty please with a cherry on top for those who are debating on it? :-)
