"We can count on so few people to walk that hard way with us"

"We can count on so few people to walk that hard way with us"

(1) Tumblr
Here
Hard, particularly lifes hard, is relative. Your hard, my hard, their hard, is not the same, but whatever the case is, it is often that the quote above is very true.

I have been spending a lot of my time lately, call it reflection or the pause before the big jump, thinking about the people in my life that I have come a long way with, and while the list may not be as long as forever, there are a handful of people I can point to and that I know I will always be able to point to. But this hasn't always been the case. We always come across people, some we may even dare to call best friends, that come in to our life and make us feel or think we have found the real meaning of lifelong, but then something happens, big, small or nothing at all that makes you realise "we can count on so few people to walk that hard way with us"
.... and this has happened to me time and time again, I've pretty much ditched the term best friend, even though Lord knows I have some of the best, and I learnt a valuable lesson in reason, season or a lifetime.

Maybe it is something to do with growing up, in fact scratch that, it has everything to do with growing up. The more you do it, the fewer friends you do it with. Your priorities change, and what you start to look for in friendships have changed along with them. So when I reflect on the almost friendships and the lost ones too, I realise why they may not be such a bad thing.

I only want a few people to walk the hard way with me, and there are only a few people that I want to walk the hard way with. While I may not believe in 'no new friends' I believe that when you find the friends that encourage you, support you, believe in you, make you a better person, and generally make lifes hards easier then keep that circle tight.

We sometimes fool ourselves in thinking that we need so many people around us to not feel lonely, but there is a power in only having a few friends. A power in not having to count on so many people, because really if we are being honest, people often cannot be counted on to be counted on.

Obsessed With ChianoSky

Hi Guys,

This weeks guest blogger is a social media friend of mine Zane 'Lelo' Meslani. Born in Johannesburg and now living in Durban, Zane is a student, blogger, fashion writer, publicist and entertainment analyst and I am thrilled to have him here today to share with us. Check his blog out here

Obsessed with ChianoSky

The best thing since flavoured bubble gum.

Words that come to mind when hearing the name "ChianoSky"? Sexy, Bubbly, Soulful!

The musical sensation that is ChianoSky has become a staple brand name in the South African music industry. When I first heard her single on radio "Sick Sick", I thought it was some new American one-hit-wonder artist. My assumptions were purely wrong!

Anybody that says age is a definition of success obviously hasn't heard this 19 year old's music. Blending music elements of Blues, Smokey Jazz (I seriously didn't make that up), good old fashioned Swing and Pop to create a powerful album titled 'Hungry'. This album has hit singles such as Home Sweet Home, Sick Sick and Walking Away which in my opinion were catchy enough to make her rise right up the pop charts and claim her place on the 5FM Top 40!

ChianoSky draws her influence from classic artist such as Etta James, Marvin Gaye as well as modern songstresses Adele and the late Amy Winehouse.

Bagging a EMI recording deal, hundreds and thousands of fans, multiple SAMA nomination (Including Record Of The Year) in just under TWO years??! ChianoSky is living proof that having a dream and working hard towards it will push you beyond the limitations of everyone's expectations.

P.S : Her latest single 'Uncrumple My Heart' is such a GREAT, catchy record! My advice is, give her a listen. You won't regret it!

Blogger challenge: Day 9

Day 9: A Favourite Picture of Your Best Friend

I have a handful of friends, I love them all and I am glad they are in my life.
But very few are special friends, each of them the best in their own special way. (",)
I am so thankful for them because they make me believe in real friendship. I have made friends and lost them all in the blink of an eye, and those that were once important to me arent as much anymore. Things happen, it is life. I am so okay with that now more than ever. I am happy with the people that are in my life, and will be in excellent shape if any decide to leave.
But my special friends, these guys have always been there, through weather change, long silences, distance, and misunderstandigs.
They always stay.

Let me introduce you to them shall I?

Jane! She is my sunshine and my only sunshine. She makes me happy when skies are grey! LOL

Nasreen Hassanali! My bear! Miss her! :( amazing human being!

Velma! Where would I be without her! She makes my life!

Nadia! This tiny person is awesome. Been friends for ages!

PJ! Only known him for a short time, but boy has my life changed since! :)

But really at the end of it all, my best friend is truly the one I share most of my life with, the love of my life and funniest guy I know

The Mr! Couldn't find a solo picture of him. He is camera shy. Apparently.

I need a shopping buddy! Anyone?

One word: Shopbop

Denim, Jackets, Dresses,Lingerie, Skirts Leather, Tops, Jumpsuits/Rompers, Swimwear, Sweaters, Pumps, Heels, Boots, Flats, Sandals, Clutches, Beach Bags, Totes, Shoulder Bags, Hobos, Wallets, Cashmere, Key Chains, Umbrellas, Belts, Hats, Hair Accessories, Gloves Sunglasses, Watches, Pants, Clogs, Weekend Bags

I think I'm in love.

Have you ever spent so much time on one website that at the end of it all you ask yourself 'what was I doing?'
Well, that was me all of last night and most of this morning. The only difference is I never had the 'what were you doing' feeling, I had the 'where are you going' one instead.
Every time I left the computer for a teeny weeny bit something kept pulling me back, and by something I mean Marc Jacobs, JNBY and Alice + Olivia.

weheartit

Shopbop is really such an amazing site, and it's no wonder I couldn't pry myself away. Who else feels that way when they visit?
It's also kind of funny that I only recently found out about it. {The rock I was living under says hi} But better late than never right?
I love the designers on this site, and whats even better is that some of these prices are actually reasonable.
I think.

But this is why girls never go shopping alone, how do they expect us to make some of these decisions by ourselves.
Which presents me with a problem I'm currently having......

I need a shopping buddy.

I've been given the chance to get anything from Shopbop {five second dance party} for the value of $100 thanks to Shopbop and Mellisa

............ and as it is I am so confused.

So hi shopping buddy (",)

What are some of the things you like? or would like to buy?

I would love any of your suggestions.
I'm so bad at shopping for myself, and even worse at shopping for others.
But it really doesn't matter if its something you like, or want, or would buy for a friend anything.
I just need inspiration and maybe then will I make up my mind.

Plus it will make this shopping experience fun. What do you say?

Let's go shopping!

The good old fashioned way

"I’ve been thinking about letters recently. The real kind, long hand. And how terrible it is that nobody’s writing them any more."

I remember back when I was in high school my friends and I would make a big deal about writing letters.
A whole group of us would get together and write each other letters almost everyday, whether it was just a note to say I love you or a long detailed account of which boy did what to who, where and how.

I miss those days, not only because life seemed simpler then, but what happened to the old fashioned way of doings things?
I can be the first to admit that I am way caught up in technology, I love my cellphone and what could I possibly do without my laptop, and let's not get started on the television.
I. Need. These. Things.

But...

That quote up there is true.

I think one of the most amazing things is writing someone a letter. It is more personal than a Facebook inbox, BBM, tweet or text.
I just love the whole idea behind letter writing.
The thought behind it.
The time taken to do it.
Receiving them.
paper. {call me crazy, but there is nothing more amazing than a blank page}

I leave the boy a note here and there, but he sucks because he never replies them. It doesn't matter though because I still do it anyway.

Anyone feel like I do? What is your take on letter writing?
Yay..... or Nay?

Friday Fancies #3

I'm so happy it's Friday.
Last week blogger was down and I didn't manage to link up with {av} for Friday Fancies, but blogger has decided to behave this week so yay!

The theme this week is vineyards and wine tasting.
Now, naturally I'm not really a wine fan. I've only recently started becoming accustomed to the taste.
I had a bad incident a while ago, and let's just say two bottles of wine later I could not remember anything.
Since then, wine and I just say hi and bye to each other but I have friends that love, love wine and because of them I started drinking it more. Now I have a favorite wine {Four Cousins} and that is the only one I can have.
My friend and I were actually talking about how cool it would be to go to a vineyard and go wine tasting and grape stomping, fortunately, she got the chance to do that over her birthday, and I am still waiting for my turn.

Not anymore, {thanks to lovely {av}}
This is what I imagined myself wearing when I went traipsing the vineyards of Napa Valley, or Steenberg in Cape Town.

Vineyard Wear

This is why I love Fridays.

While I can only pretend to be in the vineyards for so long, here in the real world I have lots and lots of work to do. That's my weekend plan, that and enjoy the time I have left with the boy.

What are you loving about your Friday? Any special plans for the weekend?

Happy Friday!

A new reason to enjoy Monday

I have found a new reason to enjoy my Monday's, and its all thanks to Meg over at the {Life of Meg}

She has put together this brilliant blog hop called 'Mingle Monday' that allows you to link up your blog every Monday and get the chance to meet absolutely, ridiculously, fantastically, amazingly cool people.

If you don't believe me cross over there yourself and take a look, but of course you believe me because this is the blog world and we are all so friendly over here. (",)

I've met some really incredibly funny people through Mingle Monday (even though I have only been at it for all of five minutes) with totally cool blogs (kind of makes me want to hide mine away at it's amateurness O_o) but I love it, it's fun and you should try it too.

Join the party.....
Happy Mingling

oh and {p.s.} If you do decide to join, cross over back here and let me know how it goes? yes? yes!

Have a happy holiday every bunny

Why did the Easter egg hide? -
He was a little chicken!

I always find this holiday one of the most colorful, I don't know if its because of the spirit of which it's received, or the eggs, but it's definitely such a happy holiday.

Some people can't wait for the egg hunt, or Easter parade:

Some can't wait to kick their feet up and take a break off work or school (I know I am one of them):

Some can't wait to throw water all over each other like they do in Hungary (This is a tradition I want to take part in):

Some can't wait to spend time with family friends, eating, talking, laughing.

Some can't wait to give praise and worship.

What will you guys be doing this Easter?

Whatever it is that you guys may be up to this holiday, have tonnes of fun and as my mum always says, don't lose sight of what it's really about.

Happy Easter friends.
Eat. Pray. Love.

'singing in the sunshine, laughing in the rain'

"If you laugh a lot,
when you get older your wrinkles will be in the right places"

I had an uncontrollable fit of laughter today. It was simply the best.

My friend said to me 'why do you keep laughing'
I had no answer. But what I should have said was

'I laugh because it's cheaper than medicine'

You see the thing is, one minute I'm giving a presentation from hell.
My nerves are all over the place, people are staring at us, we are saying the right things at the wrong places, we are skipping section after section, it was just so bad. All I kept thinking was how much longer do we have to do this for.
You would think this would make me want to just disappear, but my friends reaction killed me. She kept saying,

'oh no, oh my god, oh wait, that's wrong, I'm sorry'

under her breath.
I'm like dude, who are you talking to?
So, I laughed.
Yup, during the presentation. I just laughed. I did my best to cover it up though, and remain professional, but hell, we were well on our way to a bad mark what difference would it have made.
I could have broken out into song and still have made no difference.

We were sinking.
Fast.

I hate presentations, in fact, that's not true. I hate having to talk in front of people, that's what it is, especially about things I don't know about.
They say picture the audience naked, or doing the Macarena or something, but that doesn't actually help me. It's like are you kidding me? Now we are all just looking stupid. Them dancing, and me standing here talking to them dancing.

I'm just grateful that I took the situation for what it was.
Damn hilarious.
I still pray that I got a fairly good mark, Lord knows I need it.
But I had amazing fun today, then and since then.

Who knew my amazing day would come from such a horrible experience.

Hope you enjoyed your Wednesday lovelies!
